The Ole Miss soccer team returned to practice on Tuesday to gear up for the 2019 season. Next Monday, Aug. 12, they open up the season against Samford in an exhibition game at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
The Rebels are looking to continue to build on last season’s 13-8-1 overall finish and 6-3-1 mark in conference action. Head Coach Matt Mott has named seniors Julia Phillips, Gabby Little and junior Grace Johnson as captains for his squad this season.
“It was awesome to be back out on the pitch today with the team,” Mott said. ”With 15 returners and 10 freshmen, it’s really a new group for us this year. Our fitness level is at an all-time high. Now it’s time to come together as a team.”
Monday’s meeting against Samford will be the first of two preseason exhibitions for the Rebels, who will also travel to Conway, Arkansas for a match against Central Arkansas on Aug. 16. The regular season kicks off for Ole Miss on Aug. 22 when they take on the North Alabama Lions in Oxford.
“With our first exhibition just six days away we have a lot of work to do and I know this group and our staff are ready for the challenge of this season,” Mott said. “This will be a fun team to watch.”
