After strong performances at the SEC Preview meet last Friday at Auburn, redshirt freshman Ylvi Traxler won SEC Women’s Runner of the Week while Cade Bethmann earned Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Traxler earns the award on the heels of her first career cross country meet, where she won the individual title in the women’s 4K at a time of 13:24.71 – currently tied for the top 4K time in the conference. Her performance helped lead the Rebels to a second-place finish in the women’s team standings.
Bethmann, meanwhile, was named SEC Men’s Freshman Runner of the Week following his third-place finish at the SEC Preview, helping the Ole Miss men to the team title as one of five Rebels to finish in the top-10. Bethmann ran a 6K of 17:59.51 in his first career cross country race at Ole Miss, which is currently the third-best 6K time in the SEC.
The Rebels return to action in Boston next Fri., Sept. 21, for the Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston College.
