Cynthia Bolden, owner of Good Nutrition, has a history in Oxford of making her customers feel better. Opening Good Nutrition in 2005, Bolden has made a name for herself and converted a few “doubting Thomases” along the way. HottyToddy.com’s Steve Vassallo met up with her for this Q&A:
Vassallo: Cynthia, for those readers unfamiliar with Good Nutrition, where is your business located and what are the hours?
Bolden: Steve, we’re located at 1151 Frontage Road, Suite B (Southwest side of circle on South Lamar) and are open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Vassallo: Are you a native of Oxford?
Bolden: No, I’m not. My husband was offered a position with Baptist Memorial Healthcare in 2004. This job brought us to Oxford for the very first time. We were living in Birmingham previously.
Vassallo: How did you become involved in the world of nutrition?
Bolden: An illness and a referral from a friend. I was not feeling all that great and had not been for some time when I was referred to a master herbalist in Birmingham. Being a skeptic of the nth degree, I became a staunch believer after getting much better and have been ever since.
Vassallo: Would you mind sharing how the master herbalist helped you?
Bolden: Not at all. I was having chronic sinus issues when the herbalist introduced me to Sinus Support EF. This changed not only my health in a good way, but opened the door to a career for me that is going strong 15 years later. Within one year, my sinus problem was cured and I was “hooked” on natural herbs.
Vassallo: What is contained in this product?
Bolden: The four primary ingredients are Capsicum Fruit, Burdock Root, Goldenseal Root and Parsley Leaf.
Vassallo: How exactly were you relieved?
Bolden: The ingredients helped my sinuses drain as well as improving my digestive system.
Vassallo: Am I correct in stating that you do not charge for consultations?
Bolden: That is correct. I want people to know if they need me, I’m here.
Vassallo: Estimate how many Oxonians you have assisted?
Bolden: It’s in excess of 1,000 plus about helping 15 percent of their pets in
addition.
Vassallo: That’s no small number. What would be a typical testimony from one of your customers?
Bolden: “That girl really knows her stuff.”
Vassallo: We’re going to put you on the spot. By percentages, rank your clientele 0-10 (with 10 being outstanding) as to how your counseling improved their conditions.
Bolden: I would categorize as follows: 9-10 (80 percent), 7-8 (15 percent) and all other (5 percent).
Vassallo: That’s quite impressive. How do you handle those few “doubting Thomases?”
Bolden: They find out quickly that I’m no “witch doctor.” I get truly motivated
with this type of customer, especially with those who come in to see me after having made extensive internet searches.
Vassallo: Would you mind sharing one of your very top success stories?
Bolden: The first one that comes to mind happened a few years ago when a customer gave me an unexpected $1,000 tip. She had visited me bringing in a large bag of medicines that she had been taking for a long time to deal with asthma. Once I got her started down a new path, it took three to six months to correct her problem. Her entire life turned around as she could go outdoors in the springtime once again. The reason for the large tip was because she stated, “you have saved me many dollars.”
Vassallo: That’s some story. It sounds as though “good nutrition” is really important to our bodies.
Bolden: Giving your body what it needs is critically essential to good health. A good herbal regiment will straighten out a great deal of issues going on.
Vassallo: Cynthia, one last question. If you could do just one thing over in your life as it relates to your business, what would that be?
Bolden: I would have gone into business sooner. I would have pushed harder and done more teaching by offering classes. I would have been much more of a “trailblazer.”
