Are you ready to Pack the Pavilion? After weeks of hard work and preparation, Coaching for Literacy is.
The Ole Miss Men’s Basketball team has been practicing for their Feb. 25 matchup against Missouri while the Ole Miss chapter of CFL has been preparing for the game by selling tickets and promoting their fundraiser in the Grove.
CFL is offering raffle tickets for $10, and the winner will have a chance to stand near the Rebel bench beside Andy Kennedy for the Rebels’ game at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 25. The winner will also receive admittance into The Library for a fundraiser night on March 1.
“Last year, the Coaching for Literacy Ole Miss Chapter contributed $13,000 to Mississippi-based literacy programs, which directly supported over 1,000 young students,” said Ryan Viner, Coaching for Literacy executive director and Ole Miss alumnus. “I am excited about the impact being made by Ole Miss students in the Fight for Literacy, their work is creating a brighter future for the state of Mississippi.”
Among those students fighting for a brighter future for the state of Mississippi is CFL Ole Miss chapter member Bennett Wilfong. Wilfong is the younger brother of CFL co-founder Jonathan Wilfong. He has seen CFL go from a dinner table idea to a nation-wide non-profit organization.
“The most rewarding part of being outside working to promote Coaching for Literacy has been the aspect of comradery that our team has as a group,” Wilfong said. “We sit outside each day, enjoy each other’s company and sell the tickets as we bring awareness to the student body about the mission and efforts of Coaching for Literacy.”
The proceeds fund three specific Mississippi literacy programs. During halftime of the basketball game, CFL will present a check to the Barksdale Reading Institute, Mississippi Children’s Museum and Leap Frog.
Coaching for Literacy is a way that Ole Miss students gather and rally around a common cause to help improve Ole Miss, Oxford and many other places. If you too want to be active in helping literacy issues in Mississippi, here is how you can:
• Tweet #CSpire4Literacy and they will donate one dollar on your behalf towards literacy work in Mississippi.
• Donate $10 and be entered to win two all-access tickets and a chance to be an assistant coach for Andy Kennedy at the Ole Miss-Missouri game on Feb. 25.
• Buy a $10 ticket and go to The Library on March 1 for an 18+ fundraiser night
• Donate online here
