The University of Mississippi Class of 2016 chose to raise money to purchase and install three flagpoles and an enclave between Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and The Pavilion at Ole Miss. This gift represents the 2016 graduating class because they are the first Ole Miss class to experience The Pavilion at Ole Miss.
The class of 2016 set a goal to have at least 50 percent of the senior class help raise the $10,000 needed to purchase and install the gift. The project ended on December 14 with $10,752 raised and 851 donors, meeting 107 percent of their original goal.
“People around the state, nation and world are noticing the great things that are happening here at the University of Mississippi. It is clear that students want to be a part of a vibrant and successful community of scholars, who provide them with incredible opportunities. The work that we do is filled with incredible purpose”, said University of Mississippi Interim Provost Wilkin.
The Pavilion at Ole Miss opened January 7, 2016, when Ole Miss hosted Alabama. The Pavilion is replacing the Tad Smith Coliseum where the Rebel basketball team had been playing since 1966.
The Pavilion has a capacity of 9,500 people. It also has a Steak ‘n Shake, Old Venice Pizza and a Raising Cane’s. One of the most prominent features of the new arena is the LED display; it is the largest center-hung video display in college sports.
Members of this year’s graduating class have experienced many amazing achievements during their time at The University of Mississippi such as three post-season Ole Miss bowl games, defeating Alabama two years in a row, a huge rise in enrollment at the university and much more.
