This Saturday, the Ole Miss Rebels basketball team is heading up to Lexington, Kentucky to take on the Wildcats. The tip-off is set at 6 p.m. and SEC Network will show the game.
Ole Miss (10-2) comes into the first conference game of the season on a seven-game winning streak after defeating Troy 83-80 in overtime.
Senior forward Tomasz Gielo scored a career-high 23 points and finished five of 11 from 3-point range in the victory, while senior guard Stefan Moody added 23 points, seven assists and six steals. The Rebels finished with an overall record of 490-210 in the Tad Pad and became 126-31 (.803) under head coach Andy Kennedy.
Moody leads the SEC, and ranks eighth nationally, in scoring at 23.8 ppg this year. He scored 20-plus points in seven straight games which is the best streak in school history since 1992. Moody has broke the 30-point mark twice and has made a 3-pointer in 26-straight games, which is the fourth-longest streak in school history.
The Wildcats are 10-2 this year after knocking off in-state foe Louisville 75-73 Saturday.
Freshman guard Jamal Murray leads Kentucky in scoring at 16.7 ppg and is averaging 19.0 pgg over the last five games. The reigning SEC Player of the Week, sophomore guard Tyler Ulis is second on the team in scoring at 12.8 ppg and has dished out a team-best 61 assists.
Junior forward Marcus Lee and Alex Poythress lead the team, each pulling down just 7.2 rebounds a game. But the Wildcats have a +7.1 rebounding margin and rank second in the league in rebounding defense at 32.7 rpg.
This Saturday’s game will be the 117th meeting between Ole Miss Rebels and Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky holds a 103-13 lead in the series, but two of the Rebels’ 13 all-time wins have arrived in the last ten meetings. Ole Miss is 49-2 all time versus the Wildcats in Lexington, including one win all time at Rupp Arena in 1998.
