Will Sexton at Proud Larrys’ May 2

Will Sexton, whose writing credits range from work with Waylon Jennings and Stephen Stills to Joe Ely and Bill Carter, is shaped by the unique diversity of the Austin, Texas, music scene. Fate and his own sheer talent placed him on stage with local legends before he’d lived out his first decade. Sexton and his big brother, Charlie, started playing together at the Continental Club when Will was 9 and Charlie was 11.

Many of the sounds of his childhood still resonate in his current work. Sexton received early success in Austin and was signed by MCA at age 16. He has survived in the tough Austin music scene by playing gigs with a variety of notable artists. It is never unusual to go out to catch a show featuring an Austin singer/songwriter and see Sexton onstage.

He now plays quite a bit with Shannon McNally, including at her performance last weekend at the Double Decker Festival Presented by C Spire.

At Proud Larrys’ tonight, doors open at 8 p.m. with showtime at 9. Admission is $10.

Sexton performed on Music in the Hall in Oxford in February, 2012:

Music in the Hall is a grass roots music series of intimate pocket concerts, based in Oxford, Mississippi, and hosted by Daniel Morrow since November 2008. HD digital downloads and DVDs are available for purchase, but all content displayed on the Music in the Hall site is free.
