At the Carnaval del Toro in Ciudad Rodrigo, Spain, an University of Mississippi sophomore suffered the “biggest goring wound” last Saturday.

The 20 year old Georgia native, Benjamin Milley, was taken to intensive care unit immediately after a fighting bull pummeled him on the first day of the annual Carnaval del Toro. Spanish officials initially said his last name was Miller but a spokesman University of Mississippi confirmed this morning the tourist as Benjamin Milley, a liberal arts student from Marietta, Georgia earning his bachelor’s in Economics. He was in Spain as part of the university’s study abroad program.

His Spanish surgeon, Enrique Crespo, told The Associated Press: “It’s not the worst injury I’ve seen, but it’s the biggest goring wound I’ve ever had to operate on.”

Dr. Crespo said he operated on Milley for three hours to repair damage to his back muscles, thighs and sphincter. Miller had a 40-cm (16 inch) gash in his thigh from the fighting bull’s horns. He has recovered and will not need any further surgeries according to the hospital spokesperson.

Milley is not ready to talk to to the public but has been in contact with his family, according to the Salamenca hospital spokesperson who requested anonymity to keep with hospital’s rules. His friends also waited with him as he recovered in the Clinic Hospital in Salamanca. The spokesperson confirmed that Milley has recovered.

There are pictures of the fighting bull tossing and pushing the student along the ground before his rescue.

Town councilor, Pedro Munoz, said two other men, a Scottish and a Spaniard, both unidentified, sustained minor injuries from the run. Munoz said the four-day festival attracts between 45,000 to 50,000 people. Per tradition people would try to outrun the bulls to test their bravery and strength.

The town, Ciudad Rodrigo, is a small Cathedral city perched over the right bank of Agueda. The location has been inhabited since the Neolithic Age.

Update: NBC News obtained a 25 second video of the bull run.

According to New York Daily News, Milley’s mother has flown to Spain to see her son.

Tsk, tsk. Re: that top photo—what can we do about this unattractive fad of sagging trousers? Maybe El Toro was just trying to right a fashion wrong. Or maybe it was his way of saying, in bull language, “What do you expect, El Stupido, when you play around with dangerous animals?
