University Museum’s After-School Program Has Candy and Milkshakes
Get your kids’ mind off bad luck this Friday with milkshakes, music and candy sculptures at the University of Mississippi Museum this Friday!
The after-school program for students in grades six to senior year of high school is returning for the spring this Friday. The program comes on a Friday every month with a workshop featuring a mash-up of two different artists or artistic styles in one project.
Rebecca Phillips, membership, events and communications coordinator for the museum, said, “We are mashing pop art and Lee Renninger to create large sculptures of candy.”
These workshops are led by a team of university students who will help the younger students be creative. The museum workers will play music and treat students to milkshakes as they make their own mash-ups.
Emily Dean, the museum’s curator of education, said, “We know as kids reach the middle school and teen years their schedules get packed with different activities and commitments, so we wanted to offer an easy, registration-free opportunity for teens to explore their artistic voices and experience the museum in new ways.”
These spring workshops will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on February 13, March 20 and April 10. The cost for each workshop is $10 per participant which includes milkshakes and art materials. Pre-registration is not reqsuired but encouraged since space is limited.
