UM Museum Hosts New Art Exhibition ‘Brief Encounters’
The UM Museum recently unveiled its new art exhibition: “Brief Encounters” by Martin Arnold this week.
The exhibition opened Tuesday and will remain open through to May 16. The UM Museum is one of many places in Oxford that has hosted the figure painter’s works.
Rebecca Lingle, membership, events and communications coordinator at the University Museum, said, “We’re happy to exhibit the artwork of a person who is working within the university’s art department. He has national attention as well as local appeal so we are happy to have him.”
Arnold will give a lecture on his work on March 25 in part with the Brown Bag lecture series at the University Museum. His exhibition is also a part of the Oxford Arts Crawl on March 24.
Arnold says he will describe how he approaches his paintings as psychological studies which make them differ from portraits. He wants the viewers studying the paintings to feel the subjects are returning their scrutiny.
