BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — After helping Ole Miss to a thrilling opening victory at Vanderbilt on Thursday, Rebel receiver Laquon Treadwell was named SEC Freshman of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office.

A native of Crete, Ill., Treadwell led the team in receiving with nine catches for 82 yards in his collegiate debut. His nine catches are an Ole Miss freshman record and the most by a Rebel since Mike Espy had nine against Auburn in 2005.

Treadwell also caught a key 2-point conversion in the third quarter as Ole Miss rallied from 11 down. In one stretch that quarter, he hauled in a pass on three straight plays and four out of five.

Treadwell and the Rebels (1-0) return to action Saturday against Southeast Missouri (0-1) in the 2013 home opener. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, and the game will be televised on pay-per-view.
