A day after Donte Moncrief was picked in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft, three more Ole Miss Rebels are signing rookie free agent deals with NFL clubs.
Offensive tackle Pierce Burton is signing with the Minnesota Vikings, and fellow lineman Emmanuel McCray with the St. Louis Rams. Running back Jeff Scott will be part of the Cincinnati Bengals. Other former Rebels could be signing deals in the coming days.
Burton started all 26 games at right tackle after transferring to Ole Miss from the City College of San Francisco. He blocked for two of the top three offenses in Rebel history in terms of total yardage. The Sacramento, California native participated in the College All-Star Bowl after his senior season ended.
McCray played in 38 career games with 17 starts at left tackle during his four-year Rebel career. He also helped block for two of the best offenses in school history. After serving as the full-time starter at left tackle his junior year, he played both tackles, guard and even as an extra tackle in jumbo packages this past season. The Jackson, Mississippi native was selected to play in the 2014 Medal of Honor Bowl.
Scott, a Miami, Florida product, was one of the most productive backs in school history during his four years in the Red and Blue. He ranks fourth in school history with 3,668 all-purpose yards, sixth with 2,297 rushing yards, ninth with 17 rushing TDs and tied for 10th with 20 total TDs. He saw time in the backfield, at slot receiver and as a kick and punt returner during his career. The Paul Hornung Award watch lister played in the College All-Star Bowl after his senior season.
This group adds to a rich tradition of Ole Miss talent in the NFL, including 280 draft picks and 19 first-round selections. Last year, there were 23 Rebels in the league, with three Pro Bowlers, two All-Pro selections, 13 full-time starters and several more who made appearances in their teams’ starting lineups.
