“Love, Sex & the I.R.S. is a perfectly timed comedy with tax season right around the corner,” Yoknapatawpha Arts Council director Wayne Andrews said. “This play can give you come relief from the thought of doing taxes.”

Director Jim Shollenberger, former chair of the Ole Miss Theatre Department, said the show is about two unemployed musicians and roommates. One of the roommates, Jon, decided several years prior that he would save money if he was married, so he proceeded to use his male roommate Leslie (who could be male of female) as his wife on his returns. As the play opens, the I.R.S. has sent an auditor to investigate the situation.

Leslie proceeds to dress up like a housewife with Jon’s fiancée Kate’s assistance, but then a confused mother shows up to complicate everything! The play is full of all kinds of action, people falling over furniture to running and falling down for a great comedic effect.

Their will be four performances at the Powerhouse on the corner of University Avenue and South 14th Street. Tickets are $10 cash for Theatre Oxford Members, senior citizens and those with a student ID, and $15 for all others. Tickets can also be purchased online.

Showings are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, plus a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday.

“We are always happy to work with Theatre Oxford,” Andrews said. “Their program is giving individuals the year-round opportunity to be a part of live theatre. We love the variety of plays they pick and Love, Sex & the I.R.S. is no exception!”
