The Daily Crime Report for Wednesday, April 9
The Oxford Police Department investigated five wrecks, issued 36 tickets and made three arrests, on the following charges: out of jurisdiction warrant served; shoplifting; and public drunk.
Oxford Police also responded to seven ambulance assists, a fire department assist, six alarms, four welfare concerns, two disturbances, two 911 wrong number calls, malicious mischief, simple assault, harassing phone calls, counterfeit currency, grand larceny and residential burglary – Molly Barr Road.
The University Police Department responded to the following incidents Tuesday, April 8:
Assist with traffic on Coliseum Drive, petit larceny, five speeding, aggravated assault domestic violence at The Ridge, harassing phone calls at Brown Hall, serving a warrant at Kincannon Hall, suspicious person, speeding, larceny at the Croft Institute and running a stop sign.
The Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls Tuesday, April 8:
– Smell of smoke from heat from toaster melting a grocery bag, at 1201 Old Lake Cove, at 1:06 p.m. The story is that mom came home, put the groceries on the counter and went into another room to put the baby down for a nap. When she came back she smelled smoke and called the fire department. As she had set the groceries down, the bag pushed down the toaster button, turning it on.
– Cooking bacon activated a smoke detector, at South Residential College, at 6:05 p.m.
– Cooking activated a smoke detector at The Village bldg. 108 apt. 5, at 9:31 p.m.
– Fire alarm by a lobby rollup door was activated, at North Residential College, at 3:10 a.m.
