Two Men Arrested on More TV Thefts

Oxford Police Department investigators arrested two Jackson-area residents on April 14, Michael Buckley, 53, and Gary Welch, 51, on three counts of felony shoplifting. Officers visited Walmart earlier the same day in response to the theft of two flat-screen televisions. Walmart Loss Prevention signed charges of felony shoplifting against both men.

Officers pulled Buckley’s vehicle over in a traffic stop after the theft. In their investigation, officers said they learned that the passenger in Buckley’s vehicle was also responsible for the thefts. Bond for both Buckley and Welch is set at $10,000.
The Oxford Police Department investigated five wrecks, 94 tickets and three arrests, on the following charges: shoplifting; no seat belt, suspended driver’s license;and no driver’s license, warrant served.
Oxford Police also responded to six alarms, three suspicious persons, suspicious activity, two welfare concern, two disturbances, two ambulance assists, fire department assist, motorist assist, animal bite, malicious mischief, insufficient funds, 911 open line call, harassing phone calls and petit larceny.
The University Police Department responded to the following incidents:
Monday, April 14
Malicious mischief, traffic assist on Hill Drive, burglary – auto parts and accessories at Tad Smith Coliseum, speeding, motor vehicle accident, petit larceny, larceny, two motor vehicle accidents with injury, five vehicle stops, speeding; first-offense DUI, running a stop sign and leaving the scene of an accident; and a hit-and-run accident.
The Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
Monday, April 14
– Male weed-eating bumped an iron fence, which fell on him, trapping his leg, at 2410 Wellsgate, at 12:21 p.m.
– Fire alarm malfunction at Your Extra Closet, at 1:57 a.m.
