The Daily Crime Report for April 7

Officers arrested Curtis Lee Manning, 47, from Oxford, on charges of armed robbery Wednesday, after a victim filed a report stating that a man seeking a ride robbed him at gunpoint. The investigation and arrest were completed by the Oxford Police Department with help from officers with the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Division. Manning’s bond is set at $50,000.
The Oxford Police Department investigated 17 wrecks, issued 121 tickets and made 11 arrests, on the following charges: three public drunks; two careless driving, first-offense DUI; careless driving, no tag, first-offense DUI; careless driving, possession of alcohol by minor, first-offense DUI; speeding, suspended driver’s license, resisting arrest, first-offense DUI; wrong way on one-way street, suspended driver’s license, second-offense DUI; no seatbelt, suspended driver’s license, no insurance, possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers also received reports of 22 disturbances, seven ambulance assists, three fire department assists, three motorist assists, six alarms, three suspicious activities, three suspicious persons, three civil matters, three lost property, two harassing phone calls, two simple assault, two public drunk, two malicious mischief, two welfare concern, two improper parking, two grand larceny, two code enforcement violations – violation of smoking ordinance and parking and a 911 hang-up call.
The University Police Department responded to the following incidents:
Friday, April 4 Two running a stop sign, three speeding, failure to yield right-of-way, two suspicious persons, three traffic assists on Coliseum Drive, careless driving, two hit-and-run accidents, alcohol – EMS Police needed due to intoxication, motor vehicle accident, larceny – bicycles, driving wrong way on one-way street and first-offense DUI, traffic assist on University Avenue, housing – possession of alcohol, public drunk, fight, ambulance needed, vandalism – malicious mischief at Faser Hall and an intoxicated person. Saturday, April 5 Three intoxicated persons, disorderly conduct and failure to comply, vehicle stop, suspicious vehicle, public drunk, welfare concern and ambulance needed, larceny in The Grove, careless driving, first- or second-offense shoplifting, four traffic assists, housing – possession of alcohol, petit larceny in The Grove, four running a stop sign, alcohol – possession of beer; under 21 at the baseball field, grand larceny at Sigma Nu fraternity house, two traffic assists at the baseball field and two suspicious persons.
Sunday, April 6 Two running a stop sign, suspicious person, loud/unnecessary music or noise, public drunk, suspicious vehicle, special activity – special detail and ambulance needed, motor vehicle accident, petit larceny at the Turner Center, disturbance at Campus Walk Apartments and warrant – preparing or processing warrant at Campus Walk Apartments.
The Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls during the weekend: Friday, April 4 – A customer pulled the fire alarm, at The Round Table, at 12:14 a.m. – Workers cutting a hole in a wall activated a smoke detector, at Stockard Hall, at 2:13 p.m. – A smoke detector malfunctioned on the third floor of the Barksdale Honors College, at 2:58 p.m. – A smoke detector malfunctioned on the third floor of the Barksdale Honors College, at 3:21 p.m. – Someone discharged a fire extinguisher as a prank, at Lafayette Place 2301A, at 7:59 p.m.
Saturday, April 5 – Someone pulled a second floor fire alarm as a prank, at the Kappa Sigma house, at 12:50 a.m. – General fire alarm, call unfounded, at The Village Building No. 8, at 12:07 p.m. – General fire alarm malfunction, Baptist Memorial Hospital parking garage, at 6:02 p.m. – Burned food activated a smoke detector, at 116 Leighton Road, at 6:32 p.m.
Sunday, April 6 – A smoke detector malfunctioned in the attic of the Barksdale Honors College, at 2:58 p.m.
