The Daily Crime Report for April 17
The Oxford Police Department investigated seven wrecks, issued 15 tickets and made two arrests, on the following charges: careless driving and first-offense DUI, and domestic violence – simple assault.
Oxford Police also responded to reports of a suspicious person, three ambulance assists, a fire department assist, two motorist assists, malicious mischief, five welfare concerns, a 911 hang-up call, two disturbances, petit larceny, an alarm call, code enforcement violation and improper parking.
The University Police Department responded to the following incidents Wednesday, April 16:
Intoxicated person at Crosby Hall, drugs – possession of paraphernalia and possession of controlled substance – Schedule 1 and 2 at Stockard Hall, traffic assists on Coliseum Drive, two vehicle stops, credit card fraud and subsequent offense at Turner Center, ambulance needed at Kappa Alpha fraternity house, vandalism to vehicle, seat belt violation, speeding and petit larceny at George Peabody Hall. The Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls Wednesday, April 16:
– Embers burning in garage wall; first responders tore the sheetrock off and extinguished the embers, at 324 Hayat Loop, at 8:42 a.m. – Burned food activated smoke detector, at 1531 Tyler Cove No. 117, at 3:02. – Suspicious letter – turned out to be nothing, at the Lyceum, at 3:38 p.m. – Steam from boiling water activated smoke detector, at 1531 Tyler Cove No. 117, at 6:14 p.m.
