The 4 Best Happy Hours in Oxford

Published

on

Even when there’s no home football game, people in Oxford enjoy a good party, and happy hours help them get their groove on, even when they can’t do it in the Grove.

To be considered one of the best, a happy hour must be wallet-friendly, but quality has to be there, too.  And let’s not forget that drinks on the happy hour menu should be as tasty as those that are off it. What good is a happy hour if no one enjoys what is being served?

Below are a handful of happy hours in town that are sure to please both students and locals alike.

1.  Oxford Grillehouse

Formerly Char Grille, Oxford Grillhouse is the newly renovated restaurant on the street-level of Rooster’s Blues House. Though the name has changed, Clint Boutwell, owner of Oxford Grillhouse, kept the menu the same. Luckily for those in Oxford, this means a brunch on Saturday and Sunday every week, along with bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekends.

2. Volta

In Oxford since 2005, Volta is known to attract the post-work and college crowd — especially with 2-for-1 margaritas all day on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

“I didn’t realize the effect places in Oxford had on me until after I left,” said Amber Goodwin, a University of Mississippi graduate. “Whenever I’m back in town, I always end up at Volta. If you haven’t had their margaritas, you don’t know what you’re missing.”

Due to the popularity of their house margaritas, Volta now sells the margarita mix by the gallon. Of course, this mix does not contain alcohol. Volta is open on Monday through Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

3. Kabuki

Step one foot into Kabuki and you’ll see that it is a place where families can sit around a hibachi grill with Ole Miss students in an environment that caters equally to both parties. With deals almost every night of the week, one can hardly go wrong with Kabuki. From Sunday to Thursday, the restaurant offers coupons for 10 percent off the total check, and from Monday to Thursday, they offer buy-one, get-one 50 percent off with a valid coupon. Kabuki is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

4.  Two Stick

Owned and operated by Ole Miss alumni, Two Stick has a happy hour that appeals to the 21-and-over crowd. It  includes marked down prices on select appetizers and sushi from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and two-for-one draft beers from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wine Night, which allows customers to spend $10 for all you can drink wine until close, makes Two Stick a popular place even after happy hour is over. In addition to drink and sushi specials, kids eat free every Monday night with an adult purchase of at least $10. Two Stick is open Monday through Wednesday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to midnight, Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. and on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
