Thacker Mountain Radio Hosts Members of Lucero Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour performs at the Lyric Oxford (1006 Van Buren) this Thursday, March 31 at 6 p.m. Admission to this week’s broadcast is free.
Guests this week include members of the Memphis rock band, Lucero, mystery author Randy Pierce and acoustic quartet, The Jericho Road Show. The show is hosted by Jim Dees and Thacker house band, the Yalobushwhackers featuring multi-instrumentalist, Eric Lewis.

Before the show, from 5:15- 5:55 p.m., a special happy hour will be held for Thacker members across the street from the Lyric at McDavid Law Firm Balcony (1109 Van Buren Ave.). The reception is free to members. Year-long memberships are $50 and may be purchased at the door. Memberships are tax-deductible and go toward Thacker production costs.
Lucero is a country-punk rock band based in Memphis that has been described as a “synthesis of soul, rock and country [that] is distinctly Memphian.” Their 11th CD, is All A Man Should Do (ATO Records). A review of the CD in American Songwriter said, “Lucero is one of those bands that’s so consistent they’re underrated.” A sample of their music is embedded in the video (top).
Following their Thacker appearance, Lucero will perform a full concert at the Lyric at 9 p.m. with opening act, Young Valley. Tickets for the full concert ($20-$40) are available at the Lyric.
Randy Pierce is author of the novel, The Peter Bay (Dogwood Press), a southern thriller set in Mississippi featuring lawyer Grant Hicks who is hired to help a childhood friend wrongfully accused of murder. Pierce’s previous books include, Pain Unforgiven and Mississippi Mud. A former Justice on the Mississippi Supreme Court, Pierce is currently the Director of the Mississippi Judicial College at Ole Miss Law School.The Jericho Road Show is an all-acoustic group specializing in vintage country/blues. The band is led by vocalist Steve Gardner and guitarist Bill Steber of the Jake Leg Stompers. Slide guitarist Wes Lee, and blues musician Libby Rae Watson round out the quartet. Their CD is Times Ain’t Like They Used to Be (Hoo Doo Records).
