Special Collections Lecture Series Continues this Week With Ed Meek
In conjunction with the exhibit “Hot Off the Press: New and Newly Available Archive Collections” at the University of Mississippi’s J.D. Williams Library, the Department of Archives and Special Collections has planned a series of lectures to add context to the artifacts.
Items on display in the Faulkner Room include an untitled play by William Faulkner, a Civil War soldier’s diary and promotional materials for famed blues artists, among dozens of other literary, historical, blues and political artifacts.
Each of the events will be held in the Faulkner Room, and people are allowed to bring food.
The schedule is listed below:
Thursday, September 1st at 12 pm. Dr. Ed Meek, “A Day with Mr. Faulkner and His

Horses.” Ed Meek, the namesake of the Meek School of Journalism and New Media, donated his collection of photographs to Special Collections in 2014 and will be discussing the history of selected images. The collection includes photos Meek shot of Faulkner, as well those taken during the university’s integration in 1962.
Tuesday, September 13th at 12 pm. Ph.D. candidate Katrina Sims will discuss her use of the James O. Eastland Collection to examine the history of the Taborian Hospital in the African American community of Mound Bayou, Mississippi.
Thursday, September 29th at 5:30 pm. Dr. David Hargrove and James Ziglar “Mr. Chairman: U.S. Senator James O. Eastland and the Judiciary Committee.”
Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 3:00 pm. Harry Bolick. “Mississippi fiddle tunes and songs from the 1930s.”
Tuesday, October 4 at 5:30. Talk about Rita and William Bender. The Benders will discuss the history of John C. Satterfield and their use of the Satterfield/American Bar Association Collection.
Thursday, October 6 at 11:30 am. Dr. Suzanne Marrs and Dr. Annette Trefzer. “Eudora Welty and Hubert Creekmore: Literary and Family Connections.”
