Severe Weather Update: More Watches, School Closings for Monday, April 28

1:15 p.m. – The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tenn. issued a new Tornado Watch effective until 9 p.m. Monday for the following counties in Mississippi:
Adams, Benton, Chickasaw, Clay, Greneda, Humphreys, Jefferson, Lawrence, LeFlore, Madison, Montgomery, Noxubee, Pontotoc, Scott, Smith, Tippah, Warren, Winston, Alcorn, Calhoun, Choctaw, Copiah, Hinds, Issaquena, Kemper, Leake, Lincoln, Marshall, Neshoba, Oktibbeha, Prentiss, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tishamingo, Washington, Yalobusha, Attala, Carrol, Claiborne, Franklin, Holmes, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Lowndes, Monroe, Newton, Panola, Rankin, Simpson, Tallahatchie, Union, Webster, and Yazoo.
Oxford Schools Dismissing Early
Due to the threat of inclement weather this afternoon, the Oxford School District will dismiss all schools at 2 p.m. today. School buses will run their normal routes beginning at 2 p.m., and parents will be able to pick up their school children at this time.
After school tutoring at Oxford Elementary School, Della Davidson Elementary School and Oxford Middle School has been cancelled. After school childcare at Bramlett Elementary School and Oxford Elementary School will continue as planned this afternoon.

The Oxford Park Commission has canceled all afternoon activities for Monday, April 28.
The Lafayette County School District has canceled all activities after 3 p.m., however, school will remain in session until the end of the regular school day.
The Flood Warning and Hazardous Weather Outlook listed below are still in effect for the entire Mid-South region.

8:30 a.m. – According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tenn., Lafayette County is under the following warnings/watches:
Tornado Watch until 10 a.m. – This watch covers all counties in north Mississippi, east Arkansas and west Tennessee.
Flood Watch – This watch is in effect until Tuesday eventing. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will occur across the Mid-South throughout the day Monday and Tuesday. Three to five inches are expected, with higher levels in some areas.
Hazard Weather Outlook – Monday and Tuesday this week an outbreak of severe storms is expected, including tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail. Heavy rainfall resulting in flash flooding remains likely through Tuesday evening.
