Women’s Basketball, Women’s Golf, Women’s Tennis, Soccer Post Perfect 100 GSR

Seven of Ole Miss’ athletics teams scored above the national average in graduation success rate (GSR). Additionally, women’s basketball, women’s golf, soccer and women’s tennis registered a perfect 100 GSR.

“While all of the University of Mississippi’s Olympic sports and W. Basketball teams continue to graduate above the national average, we are most excited about the opportunity we have in the next years to become a national leader in our revenue sports,” said senior associate athletics director Derek Cowherd. “The student-athletes are working harder than ever before. They are concentrating on meeting the individual and team goals that we’ve set for them, and we have the support of the professors, the University, and athletics department to reach those goals in the coming years.”

Women’s tennis has achieved a perfect score in all nine years since the inception of the rating, while women’s golf received a perfect GSR for the fifth straight year.

Women’s basketball and soccer each earned a perfect GSR for the first time.

Including the four teams with a perfect GSR, men’s golf (86), men’s tennis (89) and volleyball (92) all posted scores above the national average of 81.

The GSR measures graduation rates at Division I institutions for student-athletes who entered college as freshmen in 2003-2006 and includes transfers into the institutions. The GSR also allows institutions to subtract student-athletes who leave their institutions prior to graduation as long as they would have been academically eligible to compete had they remained.

The NCAA GSR and the Academic Success Rate (ASR) were developed in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflected the mobility among college students today. Both rates improve on the federally mandated graduation rate by including students who were omitted from the federal calculation.
