The Southeastern Conference picked up its 10th national title in baseball last week as the Vanderbilt Commodores defeated the Virginia Cavaliers in a best two-out-of-three.
Now the attention of SEC sports fans turns towards the upcoming football season. Every fall brings friends and family together to cheer on their favorite college or their alma mater. Here in SEC country, gathering together means the best tailgating in the land. The Grove experience, of course, is the best of the best.
SEC success adds even a bit more zest to those pre-game and post-game celebrations. In the past few years, the national title has been won by a school from the SEC — except for last year when the Auburn Tigers were defeated by the Florida State Seminoles in the last few minutes of that heated contest.
In addition to the end of the tigers national title chances, last year marked goodbye to the BCS Championship. A new, exciting four-team college football playoff dawns.
Some would say the SEC season actually kicks off with media days in Hoover, Ala. All the SEC teams will meet in that central location and discuss their aspirations for the upcoming season with an army of assembled sports reporters. For the SEC, that meeting takes place in Hoover July 14-17.
This season also launches a new SEC Network beginning Aug. 14. The network will carry 45 games from all 14 SEC schools through the first four weeks of the season.
Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze and a few members of this year’s Rebel team will step up to the mic and answer questions on Thursday morning, just after the Georgia Bulldogs open up the day.
Freeze’s first two season have been back-to-back winning campaigns capped by bowl wins each year. The newest season of the Rebels journey looks even more promising.
