sec logoWith SEC Media Days right around the corner, it’s almost time to hear some summer hot takes to help inflate the build up to college football season.

As we continue to patiently countdown the days until kickoff, let’s take a look at the top 10 media personalities covering the sport:

10. Brent Musburger, SEC Network

College football wouldn’t be the same without Musberger filling fans’ ears each Saturday, so there’s no doubt he’ll be among the best media personalities in the game until he finally hangs up the microphone.

9. Paul Finebaum, SEC Network

As much as everyone loves to make fun of Finebaum’s show, can you really imagine SEC football without hearing its wacky callers on a daily basis? It’s not the most conventional sports talk radio, but it’s undeniably fun when football season is in full swing.

8. Gary Danielson, CBS

Say what you want about Danielson, but he’s very good at what he does. He’s been one half of the SEC’s top broadcast duo for years and has a knack for explaining the complexity of football in a way that even casual fans can understand.

7. Steven Godfrey, SB Nation

Do you like someone who tells it like it is without all the sugar coating? Godfrey’s unique perspective has become a staple in the digital college football world, and his personality shines through on his Twitter account and his podcast, “Podcast Ain’t Played Nobody.”

6. Dari Nowkhah, SEC Network

For someone who keeps things upbeat and fun no matter the topic, Nowkhah does a great job for the SEC Network. He’s among the guys who will maintain a prominent place in ESPN’s college football coverage – a lot like one of his ESPN comrades (who you’ll see a little further down) has done.

5. Rick Neuheisel, CBS

It’s not always easy to transition from the demands of being a college football head coach to talking about it on television and radio, but Neuheisel has done a great job of that with CBS and SiriusXM College Sports Nation. He’s fun and always offers great stories from an insider’s perspective.

4. Rece Davis, ESPN

As with Nowkhah, Rece Davis has done a phenomenal job at taking his career to the next level. As he heads into his second season as the host of ESPN’s College GameDay, Davis is among the elite college football media types out there.

3. Barrett Sallee, Bleacher Report

If you’re looking for the guy to blame on Twitter for hating your team, look no further than Barrett Sallee. Whether it’s in print, radio or online video, Sallee does a great job at covering the world of college football, especially in the SEC. He also showcases his personality on his weekly podcast “SEC: Smothered and Covered” on VSporto.

2. Chris Fowler, ESPN

Although he’s no longer the host of ESPN’s College GameDay, there is nothing quite like listening to Fowler call the nation’s game of the week every Saturday. He’s knowledgeable, easy to listen to and makes you feel like he’s one of your best buddies just chatting about football during a round of golf.

1. Kirk Herbstreit, ESPN

If you think of college football media members, you think Herbstreit. He’s done a terrific job of turning a career as the guy sitting next to Lee Corso on college football’s flagship pregame program. Look for Herbstreit to stay atop this list for many years to come.
