After Hugh Freeze resigned on Thursday night, Ole Miss has named Matt Luke as the interim head coach.

Luke is a graduate of Ole Miss, and was the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Rebels. He had been on the staff since Freeze’s arrival back in 2012, and has spent a total of 10 seasons with the program. Luke is also an Ole Miss graduate, after playing for the Rebels from 1995-98 and serving as a team captain for the ’98 team.
Luke also has stops at Tennessee and Duke. He served as a tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for the Volunteers from 2006-07, then went on to be Duke’s offensive coordinator/running game coordinator and offensive line coach from 2008-11.
The Rebels brought a new offensive and defensive coordinator this offseason, as the Rebels hired Phil Longo to run the offense and Wesley McGriff to run the defense. Longo has head coaching experience, as he was previously at Sam Houston State before joining the Rebels this offseason. McGriff came over from Auburn, after having served as the defensive back coach for the Tigers.

The Rebels open their 2017 season at home against South Alabama. The Rebels were picked to finish last in the SEC West at SEC Media Days.
