In what seems to be the case every week, the SEC didn’t blow anyone away in the past week on the hardwood. The conference went a lackluster 8-6 over the week with some missed opportunities for big wins.
Kentucky showed their youth at times against No. 4 Louisville Saturday, but the Wildcats had a good showing coming up just short in a 80-77 loss to their rival. Another missed opportunity came when No. 7 Missouri fell on the road at UCLA, 97-94 Friday.
Auburn nearly knocked off No. 12 Illinois, 81-79, Saturday in what would have been a huge win for the conference’s RPI, while Vanderbilt got blow out by No. 18 Butler, 68-49.
Sunday wasn’t a good day for the league as both Mississippi State and Alabama were upset at home. The Bulldogs lost to Alabama A&M, 59-57, while the Crimson Tide had a 53-50 defeat to Tulane.
The Week Ahead
The SEC’s teams don’t have a lot of time to improve their resume in the nonconference schedule, but they’ll have to do what they can with just a week remaining before conference play opens next week.
The most interesting matchups this week are Florida State at Auburn on Wednesday, Memphis at Tennessee on Friday and Florida at Yale on Sunday.
