The Ole Miss volleyball team travels to Starkville, Mississippi tonight to take on arch rival Mississippi State.
With the second half of the Rebels SEC slate starting tonight, the team will be looking to start on a fast track by sweeping the Bulldogs.
Ole Miss (19-5, 5-5 SEC) are coming off a 3-0 shutout of South Carolina Sunday afternoon at home. Coach Steven McRoberts’ squad was led by junior Nakeyta Clair, who recorded three blocks against South Carolina to bring her career total to 299.
The Bulldogs are coming into the match with a 6-20 overall record and a 1-10 mark in conference play after they dropped a 3-0 match Friday night against Auburn.
Mississippi State is led by Payton Harris, who averages 6.40 digs per set which leads the SEC. The Bulldogs picked up their lone conference win back on Oct. 17 when they defeated Tennessee by a 3-2 score.
“Any time you play your rival, you can throw out the records,” McRoberts said. “We are expecting a rowdy crowd there, so we’ll need to get off to a good start. They are playing better than the first time we played them, so we’re going to have to play well to beat them.”
In the last match between Ole Miss and State, the Rebels shutout the Bulldogs 3-0 on Oct. 12 in Oxford.
Tonights match is slated for 5 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
