Rebels’ Hopeful Star Wideout Will Play Against Gamecocks

Putting Tre Harrison on injury report likely could be Lane Kiffin’s way of having fun with mandatory list

OXFORD, Miss. — It’s become quite comical at this point with the Rebels’ use of the SEC’s new availability report teams must release each Wednesday evening.

As of Thursday, Ole Miss now has a small village of players listed as out (9), questionable (9) and probable (6). After being listed as questionable earlier this week, star wide receiver Tre Harris has been upgraded to probable for the Rebels’ road trip to South Carolina. Harris leads the nation in receiving yards by quite a large margin with 804 yards and five touchdowns on 49 receptions.

After leaving the LSU game with an ankle injury, LaNorris Sellers is now probable to play this week after missing the last week’s 50-7 victory over Akron. Coach Shane Beamer mentioned Sellers has been active this week during practice which is good news for South Carolina fans.

Sellers’ legs gives South Carolina an extra dimension for a run game that averages 192 yards per game on the ground with 11 touchdowns. Ole Miss stuffed Kentucky’s rushing attack for 98 yards on less than two yards per carry which is something the Rebels’ will need to do consistently this weekend to pull out a SEC road victory.

in comparison, Beamer and his staff are quite conservative with its reporting as only a handful of players are included on the list. Defensive back Kelvin Hunter and offensive lineman Jakai Moore have been ruled out. Star running back Raheim Sanders and wide receiver Jared Brown join Sellers as players probable to play Satuday.

Conference members are required to submit its injury reports three days prior to a conference game. Daily updates will be added until the final report which is 90 minutes prior to kickoff.

“This availability reporting policy is intended to reduce pressure from outside entities seeking participation information and represents a commitment of our 16 institutions to provide enhanced transparency to support efforts to protect our student-athletes and the integrity of competition,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said prior to Week 1.

To avoid confusion on game day, student-athletes will be reported as “available,” “game time decision,” or “out” for the upcoming game.

If a school fails to release timely and accurate availability reports for its upcoming game, it risks receiving monetary penalties ranging from $25,000 for a first offense to $100,000 for a third and further offenses in football, and a maximum of $15,000 to $25,000 in men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.
