Rebels Climb to No. 14 in AP Poll, Eight SEC Teams in Top 25

After a crazy second weekend in college football with the lone SEC loss going to Vanderbilt, a number of top-ranked teams struggled in Week 2, leaving room for Ole Miss to make a jump in the standings.
This week, Ole Miss tops out at No. 14 in the nation after trouncing Vanderbilt 41-3 at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee.
Across the nation, then-No. 7 Michigan State dropped the game by the score of 46 to 27 to the No. 3 Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Oregon, dropping the Spartans to No. 13 this week after the loss. Also, No. 8 Ohio State fell 35-21 at home in the Horse Shoe to Virginia Tech. Ohio State is now No. 22 in the AP poll.
Thanks to their big win, the Ducks jumped SEC leader Alabama in the polls after sending the Spartans back to East Lancing, Michigan, as Oregon scores 28 unanswered points in the second half.
UCLA escapes narrow defeat with a last minute score to not get beaten by the University of Memphis in the Rose Bowl stadium. The Tigers come to Oxford Sept. 27 for their first matchup since the local rivalry ended in 2006.
Further west, the Texas Longhorns lost at home to the BYU Cougars 41-7. With the win, BYU rounds out the list at No. 25 in the nation after previously being unranked.
In all, eight teams from the Southeastern Conference are ranked with Alabama leading the way at No. 3, followed by Auburn at 5, Georgia at 6, Texas A&M at 7, LSU at 10, Ole Miss at 14, Missouri at 20 and South Carolina at 24.
