For the second time this year and third time in his career, Ole Miss men’s tennis senior Nik Scholtz (Caledon, South Africa) has been named the SEC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.

Scholtz went a combined 5-0 in singles and doubles to help the Rebels to an undefeated week, including wins against Tulane and No. 14 Vanderbilt. The Rebels improved to 9-2 and 1-0 in the SEC and moved up to No. 9 in the latest ITA National Rankings.

Last Friday, Scholtz defeated the No. 14 ranked player in straight sets to give the Rebels a 3-1 lead against Tulane. Sunday, he teamed with freshman Grey Hamilton to clinch the doubles point and then rallied to defeat No. 9 ranked Gonzales Austin 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the Rebels 4-0 victory, their 10th win in the last 11 meetings against the Commodores.

Scholtz won his 17th consecutive home match and handed Austin his first loss of the spring. He improved to 7-1 at No. 1 singles and 22-2 dating back to last year.

The Rebels head to Starkville to face arch-rival Mississippi State Friday at 10 AM and then to Tuscaloosa for a Saturday match against Alabama.
