The Ole Miss Band is hosting the 2016 Pride of the South Benefit Concert at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts Center on April 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Bill DeJournett directs the Pride of the South marching band, conducts the UM symphonic band and teaches courses in the music department at Ole Miss. According to DeJournett, the funds are going to a fund for band scholarships.
“The funds go to the ‘Friends of Note’ Scholarship Endowment Fund,” DeJournett said.
DeJournett said 45 of the 55 members of the wind ensemble, who participated in the marching band last fall, are performing this Thursday at the benefit concert.
“Wind instruments and percussion” are the instruments to expect to hear as the Pride of the South plays at the concert. Since the event is free, there is no ticket purchase necessary to attend the concert and it is casual attire.
The next event the Pride of the South is performing at is the “UM Symphonic and Concert Bands concert, conducted by yours truly and Randy Dale,” DeJournett said. “[It is] Tuesday evening, May 3, Ford Center at 7:30 p.m.”
