America’s foremost political commentator and conservative columnist will give the annual spring convocation for the University of Mississippi’s Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College.

George F. Will presents “The Political Argument Today” at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 in the Ford Center for the Performing Arts. The convocation is free and open to the public, and a book signing follows in the lobby.

The author offers penetrating and incisive commentary on the Washington political scene and provides a glimpse into what the future holds for public affairs, public policy and American society. Unmatched in political insight, Will provides witty and informed commentary on politics, the economy and American society.

Honors College Dean Douglass Sullivan-González said he is awaiting Will’s wit and insight.

“We invited George Will to speak to our students given the extraordinary election this nation enjoyed in November 2012,” Sullivan-González said. “This Pulitzer Prize-winning author has demonstrated successfully the power and weight of his insights through his national columns and many TV appearances.”

Will is one of the most respected and sought-after political commentators on the national scene, offering students an informed view on the current issues and political realities of today.

“George Will’s wide interests – from baseball to national politics – give him a great vantage point to reflect on the major challenges our nation confronts.” Sullivan-González said. “To have our students engage this prominent national voice enables them to participate as citizens and scholars in our great debate about the future of country.”

His popular twice-weekly column for The Washington Post syndicate reaches nearly 500 newspapers throughout the United States and Europe, and he appears regularly on ABC’s “This Week.” He is the author of “The Woven Figure: Conservatism and America’s Fabric,” “Bunts” and “One Man’s America.” In 1990, Will published “Men At Work: The Craft of Baseball,” which topped The New York Times best-seller list for two months and was most recently reissued on April 13, 2010 as a 20th anniversary special edition with a new introduction.
