For 2016, Niche.com has released its list of best places to live in Mississippi with rankings of 25 cities. Oxford, Mississippi ranks 14th on this list.

Niche.com is a service website whose purpose is to help U.S. citizens make informed decisions on relocation to towns, cities and universities by grading factors such as the cost of living, public school systems, job creation and length of commute to name a few.

Oxford has three A-pluses in education, nightlife and the shortest commute with an A for its public school system. Niche.com gave Oxford four Bs in diversity, health and fitness, family amenities and job opportunity. Oxford also has a B-plus for its weather and a B-minus for its outdoor activities facilities. Its two lowest grades, both C-minuses, are for its cost of living and real estate. Niche.com did not have a grade available for Oxford’s Crime and Safety category.

Niche.com measured the cost of living by looking at statistics that reflect the costs of the area’s housing, food and fuel. For real estate, Niche.com says its grade “captures the overall strength of an area’s real estate market by incorporating statistics that measure trends in housing prices, affordability and homeownership rates”

Niche.com found that the percentage of renters is higher at 61.9 percent than the percentage of ownership at 38.1 percent in Oxford. It also reports that the median home value in Oxford is $222,300 which is $45,600 more than the national average of median home value at $176,700.

Overall, the city of Oxford has earned an A-minus despite the C-minus for its cost of living which bears the most weight at 15 percent on the overall grade.

Niche.com collects data from public sources such as the Department of Education, U.S. Census and FBI that it combines with “over 100 million reviews and surveys” from citizens and students. The online service also provides an explanation for its methodology online: https://local.niche.com/rankings/methodology.

The city ranked first on Niche.com is Ridgeland, Mississippi.
