Oxford Decked Out for Halloween

Spider webs, tombstones, and ghosts — oh my! Oxford and University families went all out for Halloween this year to make the town and campus pretty spooktacular! Here are some of the best-decorated homes and businesses seen around town.
South 18th Street
Brooke and Eddie Littlefield are devoted Halloween decorators. This is their third year to decorate, and each year they add a little something new to their yard. They have their own cemetery that includes bones and tombstones, 3 animatronics (robotic props that jump out at you), and a fog machine to add the spookiest effect.
When asked if they had many trick-or-treaters they replied, “We get some. I think they go to another neighborhood, but it doesn’t keep us from decorating.”
They began their setup last Saturday to make sure everything was working properly and they had all of the parts. On Halloween night, they also had strobe lights and spotlights to finish off their spooky graveyard. It took them more than a full day to complete the whole yard.

Hannah Hudson and Emily Johnson are Ole Miss students from Tupelo who decorated their home. It took them about an hour to complete the house decorations and an hour to carve each pumpkin.
Their inspiration: both of their houses at home are always decorated. After living together for two years, both Hudson and Johnson wanted to expand their decorations and bring a little bit of their home to Oxford.

North Lamar Boulevard


The Wilder house is shown in the photos above. Dede Wilder, a former teacher, says this is the teacher coming out in her.
“I get sucked back in to decorate every year.” She is expecting at least 500 kids to come by her home tonight. She says they have it down now, “My husband and I come out here and plant on the front porch for hours” because if not, kids will be ringing the doorbell all night.


The fire station is definitely in the Halloween mood! The firefighters said they are expecting between 1,500 and 2,000 kids tonight trick-or-treating.





South Lamar Boulevard





This house has a tunnel that trick-or-treaters have to brave to get candy from the front door.
Sorority Row

The Delta Gamma house on Sorority Row covered their porch in decorated pumpkins. They had a pumpkin decorating party as a sisterhood event earlier this month.
