Oxford Daily Crime Report for Tuesday, Oct. 14

The Oxford Police dept. has a warning for the public:
The Oxford police dept. has recently been advised of a new scam by phone. The caller pretends to be a family member that is in financial trouble and needs help.
They have been advised in one particular incident where the caller pretended to be a grandchild that was in a jail out of state and needed money for bail and travel expenses back home. The potential victim advised the caller to call back in 5 minutes, which the caller did not do. During this time, the potential victim called his grandchild and found that this incident was not true. The police suggest that before giving any information or sending any money that you check to make sure that you are not about to be scammed.
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: four disturbances, three alarms, three suspicious activities, two improper parking, a noise violation, a welfare concern, a simple assault, a motorist assist, an animal assist, a grand larceny and shoplifting.
Oxford police investigated five wrecks, issued 20 traffic citations, and made three arrests on the following charges: (3) possession of Schedule II narcotics.
Oxford police discovered no code enforcement violations.
University police responded to the following incidents: an accidental hit and run at North Lane, a vandalism at Paul B. Johnson Commons, an accidental hit and run at Barnard Observatory, a service call for an ambulance at the J. D. Williams Library, and a larceny in the University Grove.
