Neighborhood Integrity
The Oxford police dept. is in an effort to maintain neighborhood integrity for the residents of Oxford. It would like to remind all residents to make sure their trash cans are off the curb and placed in its proper place and that their lawns are litter free and mowed. The police will continue to address these and other code enforcement violations over the weekend.
Phone Scam Alert
The Oxford police dept. would also like to make the public aware of a phone scam in which several have fallen victim to. The scam involves a caller placing a call to an individual, usually an elderly individual, claiming to be an attorney representing a loved one that has been arrested and requesting a sum of money to represent them. The would-be victim is asked to go purchase a MoneyPak card and send them the card numbers. Please be aware and report any and all incidents of a suspicious nature to the police.
Oxford Police responded to the following incidents: five alarms, four disturbances, three suspicious activities, two 911 hang-up calls, two welfare concerns, a public intoxication, a trespassing, a careless driver, an improper parking, a motorist assist, counterfeit money, a lost property, a recovered property, and an auto burglary at 400 Alexa Drive.
Oxford Police investigated 15 wrecks, issued 15 citations and made 18 arrests on the following charges: (4) possession of drug paraphernalia, (3) minors in possession of alcohol, (2) speeding with DUI to first degree, (2) possession of alcohol on city streets, a public intoxication, a domestic violence – simple assault, an abuse of 911 call, a DUI to first degree, a trespassing, a careless driving with possession of paraphernalia and warrant served, and a careless driving and a DUI to first degree.
Oxford Police discovered no code enforcement violations.
University Police responded to the following incidents: vandalism to vehicle at Hefley Hall, a moving violation at the Baseball Field, a petit larceny at Khayat Law School, a motor vehicle accident at Rebel Drive, and a traffic detail with Coliseum Drive.
