Oxford Crime Report: Wednesday, July 20 – Contempt of Court, Power Line Arcing

Oxford police responded to the following incidents: four suspicious activities, three welfare concerns, three fire department assists, two 911 hang up calls, two reported DUI drivers, harassing phone calls, a noise violation, an alarm, a counterfeit currency, an animal complaint and a trespassing.

Oxford police investigated four wrecks, issued 21 traffic citations and made two arrests on the following charges:
Harassing phone calls
Speeding, one headlight and DUI

Lafayette sheriff’s department responded to the following incidents:: 11 service calls, three disturbances, two harassments, two welfare concerns, two transportations, two accidents, two alarms, two animal complaints, two suspicious activities, a grand larceny, a petit larceny, a scam, a civil matter, an embezzlement and a traffic complaint.

Lafayette sheriff’s department made one arrest on the following charge: a warrant for contempt of court.

University police department responded to the following incidents: two vehicle stops, a suspicious vehicle at Ford Center, a speeding on University campus, a petit larceny at Turner Center, and a vehicle accident in Women’s Terrance Lot.

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
Power line arcing at 10:14 a.m. but nothing was found so they stood by for Electric Department to check at 412 North 15th Street area
Smoke detector malfunction at 10:52 a.m. at Guyton Hall
Canceled call at 1:05 p.m. at 1075 Augusta Drive
Smoke detector activation at 1:20 p.m. caused by workers cutting sheet rock at Northgate C101
Smoke detector activation at 2:36 p.m. caused by a cleaning at State Veterans Home
Smoke detector malfunction at 2:51 p.m. at 3904 Eagle Cove
Water flow alarm at 3:17 p.m. caused by workers breaking a sprinkler head causing it to flood the floor at Deaton Hall
Smoke detector malfunction and water flow alarm malfunction at 5:04 p.m. at Guyton Hall
Fire warning at 8:05 p.m. where a resident advised that something in the above apartment smelled like it was on fire but the firefighters found no fire but rather the tenant was only cooking.
Smell of smoke at 10:11 p.m. caused by a compressor motor locking up at Volta
