January is a time to clean out houses after holidays. Some of the Oxonians who have taken down more than Christmas decorations may be appearing as one of 47 vendors at Oxford Conference Center’s sixth annual Yard Sale this Saturday. Those who love browsing yard sales will enjoy shopping indoors.
The event is this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with no early entry allowed. The admission is $2 per person with free attendance for children 12 and under. There are spaces open for those interested in hosting a yard sale within a heated building instead of an icy front yard.
The booth spaces are 10 x 10 for $30 and 10 x 20 for $45. Each booth comes with a table and two chairs. Micah Quinn, OCC’s events manager, said there are “very few spaces left,” so she encourages those interested to call her at 662-232-2367 to purchase a booth space. These spaces are on a first come basis.
“We put this on every January as a community event and always have a great response,” said Quinn. “This sale is a great way for people to clean out their closets, garages and homes after the holidays.”
The vendors may keep 100 percent of profits according to Quinn. The Holding Hands truck will be there after the event if the vendors would like to donate items that did not sell. Tax receipts will be provided for them in return.
“We encourage everyone to come out to this fun community event where you hit all your Saturday garage sale shopping while staying warm,” said Quinn.
Jim and Marge McCauley will be enjoying their third time as a vendor at the Yard Sale this Saturday. They have retired to Oxford from Germantown, Tennessee in 2000 after their daughter graduated from University of Mississippi in 1995. Since moving here the couple have been busy volunteering their time on various city committees, church activities and local clubs.
Jim McCauley said things that he and his wife has had for years but did not use often or have replaced with new items will be featured at their vendor. “We will even have some small furniture this time,” said McCauley.
“It’s a great experience just to walk around and see what is for sale,” said McCauley. “You can buy items that ar priced to sell and most can afford. It’s a garage sale and a social gathering.”
Hollis Green, OCC’s director, said, “We always look forward to this event because it brings out the entire community. The shoppers always seem to really enjoy the day looking for those great affordable treasures.”
