On Saturday afternoon at Swayze, fans witnessed an offensive performance from both teams. The Rebels outscored the Trojans of Arkansas Little-Rock by the score of 11-5 to win the series.
Ole Miss (13-2) produced a total of 15 hits on the day.
The Rebels’ bats came to life in the bottom of the first inning with two men out. Austin Anderson started everything off with a single to center field. Will Allen followed with a double to move Anderson to third base. Sikes Orvis drew a walk to load the bases. Preston Overbey doubled to left center to score the first two Ole Miss runs. Brantley Bell delivered a single to plate two more Rebel runs. Errol Robinson brought in the fifth run of the frame with a single to right field.
After the game, Coach Mike Bianco talked about how the Rebels came out swinging.
“It’s huge to open up an inning with five runs with two outs already on the board,” Bianco said.
In the bottom of the second inning, Ole Miss added a run after a single by Anderson that Overbey drove in after a single to left center.
Arkansas Little-Rock found a way to get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning by tacking up four runs. The Trojans batter Bryson Thionnet hit a three run homerun to left field.
The Rebels quickly answered in the bottom of the inning, with a run of their own with a double by Allen to score Anderson from second.
The Trojans scored their last run of the game with a double by Tanner Rockwell, which ended up scoring Ben Crumpton from second base.
Ole Miss starter, Christian Trent, worked a total of 4.2 innings, giving up five runs off of six hits. Trent struck out six Trojan batters and only allowed a single walk.
Coach Bianco called on the arms of Aaron Greenwood, Preston Tarkington, Hawtin Buchanan, and Austin Blunt to come to the mound in relief for Trent.
Greenwood picked up his first win of the season in a Rebel uniform.
Will Jamison hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to right field for the eighth run of the game for the Rebels.
Ole Miss added three runs in the seventh inning.
Ole Miss will go for the sweep of the series over Arkansas Little-Rock tomorrow at 1:30p.m.
