COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 12 Ole Miss needed a big win after an upset loss last week to Kentucky and got exactly that.

The Rebels jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead against South Carolina and never had their lead threatened in a 27-3 victory on Saturday.

Ole Miss got off to a fast start against the Gamecocks with Henry Parish Jr. giving the Rebels a 7-0 lead in less than five minutes. The Rebels kept the pace up for the first half with 24 of their 27 points scored in the first 30 minutes.

JJ Pegues had two one-yard rushing touchdowns for Ole Miss that capped off Ole Miss drives in the first half. Henry Parrish Jr. had the only other Ole Miss touchdown that came in the first five minutes against South Carolina.

Jaxson Dart moved into third-place in career passing yards at Ole Miss after throwing for 285 yards while completing just 54 percent of his passes. He also had eight runs for 44 yards.

The Ole Miss defense did its job, holding South Carolina to just three points and 306 yards of total offense. The Rebels also sacked Gamecocks’ quarterback Lanorris Sanders six times, one interception and 10 tackles for a loss.

Saturday’s road win was big to show last week’s 20-17 loss to Kentucky was a fluke performance by the Rebels and keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive. They’ll need a similar performance with two of the Rebels’ toughest opponents on the schedule next.

Ole Miss will head to No. 13 LSU next Saturday and then host No. 19 Oklahoma on Oct. 26 in Oxford.
