Ole Miss Sweeps Louisiana-Monroe

The Rebels finished the midweek sweep of Louisiana-Monroe by finding another way to pull out a 4-3 win in the ninth inning with an RBI single from Will Allen.
Ole Miss (8-1) came into the bottom of the ninth in a tied game looking for a game- winning hit. Bradley Bell gets a base hit single followed by a pass ball to move him to second base and Braxton Lee sacrifices him to third base and Auston Bousfield walks. Then Monroe walks Austin Anderson to load the bases.  Will Allen punched the ball into the outfield for a game winning RBI.

“I didn’t face him yesterday, but Errol Robinson told me just to get on top of the plate and obliviously it worked,” Allen said. “Coach (Cliff) Godwin really worked with my approach and told me to be aggressive and be ready to hit the fast ball to the outfield. I really didn’t do that. I hit a ground ball and fortunately it found a hole.
Allen ended the night going two-for-five at the dish with no runs and a RBI.
Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco discusses how well his team came back to find a way to win.
“It all starts if the first guy can get on base because it puts a lot of pressure getting the guy on base,” coach Mike Bianco said. “Then in the top of the line up we were going to sac him over, but a pass ball gets him to second then we sac him over to third. A walk allowed Bousfield and Anderson to load the bases. They brought in their sidearm guy and we have up Will Allen. He is confident and good at swinging the bat. He jumps all over the first pitch and hits it through the six hole.”
The Rebels tied the game in the eighth inning off of a Cody Bortles ground out to bring the run in from third base.
Ole Miss starter, Jeremy Massie worked a total of five innings, without giving up a hit or a run while he was on the mound. Massie did allow three of Monroe’s batters to get on board by the way of a walk and striking out two batters.
Three other Rebel pitchers made an appearance on the mound against the Warhawks: Josh Laxer, Evan Anderson and Cheyne Bickel.  Anderson was the lone Ole Miss pitcher to allow any hits or runs. Monroe got three runs off of two hits on Anderson.

Ole Miss started Wednesday’s game like Tuesday by putting up scores the first time they were up to bat. As Lee draws a walk, he then steals second base and comes into score off of a ground ball RBI out by Bousfield.
In the bottom of the fourth, Ole Miss tacked a second run on the board when Lee doubles to bring home Bortles from second base.
The Rebels close out the night with a total of twelve base hits.
Louisiana Monroe was able to manufacture three runs off of two hits in the top of the seventh inning against Rebel reliever Anderson.
Ole Miss returns to the diamond of Swayze Field as they host the Golden Knights of Central Florida in a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m.
