Ole Miss’ Jalen Miller Tabbed SEC Freshman Of The Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After running one of the fastest 60-meter dashes in Ole Miss history, Jalen Miller was named Southeastern Conference Men’s Freshman of the Week on Tuesday by the league office.
A native of Tunica, Miss., Miller has burst onto the collegiate indoor track scene as one of the nation’s top short sprinters. At the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York on Friday, he ran a personal-best 6.62 to place third in the championship final of the 60 meters.
His sensational time moves him up to 11th on this year’s NCAA list and fifth in school history, just behind such names as Isiah Young and James Shelton (at 6.61).
He now ranks first among SEC freshmen and second among all freshmen nationally in the 60, while he is fifth among league freshmen in the 200 (21.41). This is the first weekly honor of his college career.
Miller will help lead Ole Miss at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational this Friday-Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M., which will be the site of the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships. This is the final weekend of action for the Rebels prior to the SEC Championships (Feb. 27-March 1 in College Station, Texas).
