Ole Miss Hosts Mississippi State

The Rebels and the Bulldogs close out the 2013 home schedule at Swayze.

The Ole Miss baseball team returns to Swayze Field tonight for the final home baseball series of the 2013 season against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Ole Miss (33-16,12-12 SEC) currently seats as high as number 20 in the nation according to the USA Today/ ESPN Coaches Poll. Last weekend, the Rebels dropped an SEC series to the Auburn Tigers after wining the Friday night game. With the 6-1 victory, Bobby Wahl continued his unbeaten streak on the mound to move to a 9-0 record so far on the season.

Junior Stuart Turner continues to led the Rebels at the plate with a .397 bating average that includes five home runs and 46 RBI’s on the year.

Mississippi State (36-13,13-11 SEC) enters the weekend coming off a series sweep of the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Bulldogs look to junior Hunter Renfore on offense. Renfore has a .392 average, knocking 15 home runs out of the yard and tailying up a total of 49 RBI’s. As a club, Miss. State has a .294 average,  scoring 309 runs on the year thus far.

The probable pitching matchup for this weekend’s tilt showcases the arms of senior LHP Louis Pollerana (tonight), senior RHP Kendall Graveman (Saturday) and sophomore LHP Jacob Lindgren (Sunday) for the Bulldogs.  Coach Mike Bianco is sending Wahl, Mayers and Smith to the hill.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State have met on the diamond for 442 times prior to this weekend, with the Bulldogs leading 234-203-5 in the all-time series.  This storied series began back in 1893. In Oxford, the Rebels lead the series 100-88-2.  In this years Governors Cup played at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Ole Miss fell to Miss. State 5-1.

Fans can listen to every pitch of the games on Q 93.7 and watch the action streamed live on Rebelvision. Sunday’s game will be carried on CSS.  Game times for the weekend are slated for tonight at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
