Rebels and Tigers clash on the gridiron in 1st SEC matchup
The Ole Miss Rebel football team closes their 2013 regular season home schedule on Saturday night as they face the Missouri Tigers at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. ESPN will carry the game at 6:45p.m.
Ole Miss (7-3, 3-3 SEC) comes into the game with the momentum of a four game winning streak. The Rebels are also ranked number 24 in the nation according to the Associated Press poll.
Last Saturday, the Rebels set new offensive records by putting up 751 total yards of offense. On Monday, Ole Miss found them listed in the upper half of the SEC statistical rankings in every offensive and defensive category.
This season, junior quarterback Bo Wallace’s play has moved him into fourth place in school history for career total offensive yards (6,280). Wallace’s numbers break down like this: fourth in career passing (5,658), fourth in touchdowns (39), and second in 300-yards passing game (7).
No. 8 Missouri (9-1, 5-1 SEC) looks to have bounced back after a 27-24 deficit to South Carolina with two back-to-back wins. The Tigers quarterback, senior James Franklin, will be back on the field after suffering an injury to his shoulder during the game against Georgia.
Missouri ranks in in the top three in the SEC and Top 20 in the nation in both scoring offense (41.3) and scoring defense (20.2). Since the Tigers’ lone loss to the Gamecocks, no other game has been decide by less than a 15-point margin.
Missouri controls it’s own destiny to win the East with a one game lead margin over South Carolina. All the Tigers have to do is beat the Rebels and the Aggies to lock up a spot in Atlanta on Dec. 7th.
When Ole Miss and Missouri meet on the gridiron Saturday night, it will be the seventh time the two teams face each other, but only the first time the two have met as members of the SEC. The Tigers lead the all time series at 5-1 and Missouri won the lone meeting in Oxford.
