National Broadway Tour of Jekyll & Hyde Comes to University

The National Broadway Tour of a musical based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic story, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, will show in Oxford at the Gertrude Ford Center tomorrow and Wednesday night.

Frank Wildhorn is an American composer best known for this musical and penning Whitney Houston’s #1 international hit song “Where Do Broken Hearts Go?” He collaborated with Leslie Bricusse, double Oscars and Grammy winner, to create the Jekyll and Hyde musical. They both were the driving forces behind its unforgettable music.

Wildhorn originally conceived Jekyll and Hyde as a stage play with playwright and co-writer Steve Cuden. That play did not happen due to financing issues but Wildhorn teamed up with Bricusse to rewrite the play into a celebrated musical. The musical is currently being adapted into a movie with both Wildhorn and Bricusse overseeing the casting.

The musical recreates the story of two men: the beloved Dr. Jekyll and wretched Mr. Hyde who drew both admiration and horror from London over an experiment in separating good and evil within a human body. The musical isn’t just about them but also about two women with one stark difference: trust, and lack of. But they have their love in common, both unaware of each man’s secret.

The Gothic musical has a pop rock soundtrack including the iconic “This Is The Moment,” and audience favorites of “Someone Like You” and “In His Eyes.”

The musical will begin at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow and Wednesday. The tickets are $65 for orchestra – parterre seating, $61 for mezzanine and $55 for balcony seating.
