The MS Flood Futbol Club U9 and U12 girls took on soccer teams from Mississippi, Florida, Louisiana and Texas at the New Orleans Champions Cup tournament Nov. 9-10, with the U12 girls going undefeated against teams ranked in the Top 25 in the nation.

“It was a total team effort,” said U12 Girls Soccer Coach Chuck Trost of his team’s 3-2 win over Pearl River Soccer Club in the final match. “These girls work hard in practice, and it paid off this weekend. We scored 7 goals off of corner kicks in the tournament. I am very proud of these girls, they were the best team on the field this weekend.”

The U9 girls lost a heartbreaker of a match to Brandon 1-0 in the final in double overtime. Four girls on the team are U8 and one is U7 playing up, a fact that U9 Girls Coach Jason Talavs said makes their accomplishment even more special.

“The teams we faced were older and bigger than a lot of our girls, but we fought hard and played disciplined soccer,” said Talavs. “We only gave up two goals in four matches.”

The MS Flood teams include girls from Oxford, Grenada, Greenwood, Duck Hill, Amory and Pontotoc.
