Mississippi Native Finds Inspiration in Folk Art, Vintage Jewelry

Charleston, Miss. native, Beth Bond, finds inspiration in the Southern folk art and vintage items she sells at the Mustard Seed Antique Mall in Oxford, Miss.
At the Mustard Seed, she sells mainly folk art, painted furniture, vintage silverware, and jewelry. She represents folk artists from all over the South who, instead of canvas, paint on found pieced of metal or wood.
Specifically she represents Billy Moore from Memphis, Tenn.; Katrina Hill from Louisville, Miss.; and John Sperry from Maysville, Ga.
After being at the Mustard Seed for eight years, Bond recently decided to not only expand to Etsy.com, a website for buying and selling handmade and vintage items, with her own jewelry line. Mabel’s Vintage Jewelry collection includes a Mississippi charm bracelet, necklace and earrings.
“I’ve always wanted to start a jewelry line and just found the time this past November,” Bond said. “I would have to say that the artists that I represent have inspired me in many ways.”
After graduation from the University of Mississippi, Bond moved to Memphis, but said she has never forgotten her roots, which is evident in her jewelry collection.
The Mustard Seed is located at 1737 University Ave. and open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
