March Art Crawl Features Local Students’ Artwork

On Tuesday, March 22, one of Oxford’s favorite fluid gatherings – YAC’s Oxford Art Crawl – takes place at several locations around town and features an amazing Student Art display at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center with over 160 entrants vying for cash prizes.

The popular event – held religiously on the fourth Tuesday of each month (January through October) – is sponsored by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (YAC) and is always free of charge and open to everyone.

And, as a special bonus at this week’s crawl, North Light Gallery at the Orchard located at 295 Highway 7 North will host the pre-crawl reception from 5-6 p.m. Featured art on display at North Light Gallery will be a collection of beautiful oils painted by students from the University of Mississippi Art Department. For more information about North Light Gallery and the Orchard, visit Facebook.com/gallerynorthlight.com or email Nlightgallery@gmail.com.

This month’s main attraction – scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22 – will launch from the Powerhouse in Oxford’s iconic Double Decker bus.

“The Oxford Art Crawl has become one of the events that makes our community distinct. The monthly event provides a chance to get a survey of the ever-changing art exhibits and shows at all venues; from galleries, community spaces to museums. It inspires residents and visitors to set aside time to view art using the monthly event as a way to recharge the mind as they discover the ever-changing exhibits available daily in our community,” YAC Executive Director Wayne Andrews said.

Parking for the event is free to participants and is available in the lot located behind the Powerhouse. From there, the Double Decker bus will shuttle participants regularly throughout evening; making stops at the UM Museum, the Oxford Square, on the Ole Miss campus and at the Powerhouse itself. With the regularity of the bus, participants can easily visit each of the locations and enjoy all of the art on display.
