Death Valley Drama: LSU Defeats Ole Miss in Overtime Thriller

LSU defeated Ole Miss 29-26 in a wild overtime game at Death Valley, with Garrett Nussmeier’s game-winning touchdown sealing the victory.

BATON ROGUE, La. – Saturday nights at Death Valley tend to produce wild, unpredictable games.

Saturday night between No. 9 Ole Miss and No. 13 LSU was no exception with turnovers, penalties, big plays, replay reviews and overtime. In the end, LSU fans celebrated a 29-26 win on the field at Death Valley.

The Rebels got the first possession of overtime and three penalties forced them into a 57-yard field goal by Cade Davis. On the Tigers’ first play, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw a back shoulder pass to Kyren Lacy to win the game for LSU.

Not long before that, Nussmeier, on fourth-and-5 and 32 seconds left in regulation, hit Aaron Anderson that tied the game, 23-23, and sent the game into overtime.

The Rebels were penalized 12 times for 110 yards, but the overtime penalties proved too much to overcome.

Ole Miss took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter on a 50-yard run by Bentley, but the Tigers responded on its following possession with a six-play, 75-yard touchdown drive.

Tre Harris, who had been a constant listing on the Rebels’ availability reports this week, extended his team’s lead to 17-7 with a 15-yard touchdown catch with less than two minutes to play. LSU was able to kick a pair of field goals in the final 35 seconds.

Ramos kicked a 33-yard field and the Rebels fumbled on their first offense play, giving LSU another scoring chance and Ramos kicked a 45-yard field goal just before halftime.

Jackson Dart completed 24-of-42 passes for 284 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

It’s the second loss of the season for an Ole Miss team that had hopes of making the College Football Playoff. However, with some of the upsets and shocking results that have already happened, the Rebels could still maybe make the 12-team playoff.

But at this point, it’s a big maybe.
