Charlie Mitchell is assistant dean of the Meek School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi, where he is also an assistant professor.
He is a 1975 graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in communication and a 1986 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law with a juris doctorate.
A lifelong resident of Mississippi, he was executive editor of The Vicksburg Post for 24 years and is a past president of the Mississippi Press Association. He has been a statewide columnist in more than 20 newspapers for more than 25 years and has won many writing awards for the column, his reporting from Iraq and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He is a member of the Warren County and Mississippi bar associations and is admitted to practice in state and federal courts.
His wife, Nancy, is an artist and retired public school teacher. They have two daughters and four grandchildren.
